Reading time: 3 minutes
July is the month when everything slows down. The days are long, the calendars emptier. For many stores, it's a quiet period. But behind the scenes at Peri Living, it's the opposite. July is the month when we look ahead: to new shapes, new ideas, trade fairs, and what's next on the schedule.
From sketch to glass
A new oil lamp doesn't start with glass. It starts with an idea: a feeling for how light should behave, how a shape should sit on a sideboard, how a lamp should look beautiful even before it's lit. That process takes time.
A first sketch becomes a handcrafted prototype, the prototype moves into production, and eventually the lamp finds its way to the stores of our dealers worldwide. Every detail is considered along the way, long before the lamp is ever lit.
Summer does the rest
And then, on a summer evening, all that work comes together. A barbecue slowly dying down. The conversation that keeps going because no one really wants to go inside. The air still warm long after the sun has disappeared. On evenings like these, you don't ask yourself if you need a lamp. It's simply there, and it burns: quiet, constant, smoke-free and scentless. Take the Round Elegant Champagne Brass L: this oil lamp burns for as long as 286 hours, without ever needing a refill. Night after night, it just keeps showing up.
That's what the original Peri oil lamp has been doing for more than thirty years: simply being there, in every moment that will one day become a memory.
"The present moment always will have been."
— Marcus Aurelius
For the summer window display
July is quiet, but that's also a chance to make people pause in the store. A piece of driftwood, a layer of sand in a tray, the oil lamps on top: that's all you need.
